As a companion the the iWoz book, I also read Revoltution in The Valley – The Insanely Great Story of How the Mac Was Made. It was not a page-turner like “iWoz”, but just as interesting to read. Just like with the book by Woz, I already knew some of its contents — this time by accidentally [...]
I recently read this book by Steve Wozniak: iWoz. It’s an exceptionally interesting biography, if you care for technology and some personal computing history. I listened to Wozniak via IT Conversations before (it’s the highest rated talk over there), so I already knew some of the anecdotes and developments, but the humor and engaging style of the [...]
At home, we’re enjoying working on a brand new PC. Since I never got the NetVista X40 fixed completely, an upgrade was way overdue. This is actually my first ‘all-new’ computer. My previous expenses never went above €150. Which basically means that I’d seen enough reliability and compatibility woes for quite a while. I had some [...]
As an Ubuntero waiting for the 7.10 release, Windows Vista is definitely not on my wish list. If it is for you though, then please consider buying this Ultimate Edition box on eBay. In an ironic twist, the full sale price goes to ubuntu-be.org.
I’ve been reading my “Agile web development with Rails” book, which I bought at FOSDEM in early 2006. It had been lying around half-unread every since. Of course, by now the latest Rails releases have deprecated some stuff that’s recommended in the book, but almost everything is still compatible. Trying out the examples in [...]
It’s been a while, but here are my post-FOSDEM 2007 blabberings. It’s amazing to see how the conference has grown, and how much people the ULB campus can handle… Skimming the blog posts about FOSDEM, some lovely quotes about the conference are revealed. Words like “well organized” and “best I’ve been to” weren’t absent. [...]
The FOSDEM activities have made me put two new graphics files on the interweb. My hackergotchi for Planet Grep and Planet FOSDEM (thanks Ralph for the drop shadow!): Now, I do have to admit that I edited away a part of my “nektapijt” for this (as usual, my hair is in a should-have-been-cut-some-months-ago condition) FOSDEM logo [...]
This year, I’m not only visiting FOSDEM, I’m also contributing to it. I’m one of the web site maintainers, and I’ve been very busy with the speaker interviews. The first batch has just been published, with more still to come in the next weeks. There still is some work left to do, but I’m [...]
Here’s a little whine about blogs in general (not excluding mine I must admit). Pisses me off: Moving your RSS feed first, and blog about it afterwards, so that subscribers to the old feed will never now. Adding links without the ‘http://’ prefix. They don’t work in all browsers (no, www.google.com is NOT a page on your webserver). [...]
